Tens of thousands of marine mammals die at the hands of our plastic each year. It’s a startling fact, and it’s up to us to change it.
What has been done already?
There are already lots of things done all around the world to prevent ocean pollution, including the establishment of a number of organisations like Surf Rider, Oceana, 5 Gyres and Take 3 for the Sea. Take 3 is an organisation made by a group of beach lovers, environmentalists and local surfers in Australia who wanted to keep their favourite beach spot free of litter. This is a not for profit organisation where beach goers take three pieces of rubbish every time they leave the beach. Through ideas like this, anyone can make a change. Other things that have been done include ocean pollution prevention promotions in the form of posters, commercials and social media. Twitter is used by many ocean pollution prevention organisations like Surfrider to promote beach cleanups happening in local areas and to spread awareness
