New Brighton

Around 8km from the City Centre, New Brighton’s most pronounced feature is its 300 metre long pier. The pier is one of Christchurch’s icons standing since 1997 after the demolition of the wooden one which opened in 1894. New Brighton also suits surfing, kite surfing, fishing and walking with a straight, sandy coastline. During summer weekends and public holidays, lifeguards patrol a large part of the area.
